AFRICAN THANKS AND PLEAS

Does anyone have a laptop they are willing to let me send to a needy person I know through the church in Sierra Leone, for their educational purposes? I recently returned from Sierra Leone and can reassure any giver of the genuine need and good use of it. Otherwise your prayers are gratefully received. I will pay the postage to get it to them safely. A christian young man Michael Coomber is looking for sponsorship to do an accountancy degree which should lead to a job for him (cost of 3 year programme is £1000!). To help, please call Heather 0784 062 1678. Thank you and a BIG thanks to those who have helped out with these pleas previously (you know who you are) and your money is being well used for good educational qualifications.

PARISH BUILDINGS COMMITTEE:

Update on re-surfacing the church floor

The Diocese has agreed that the floor must be resurfaced. As yet, however, the diocesan finance committee has not authorised the expenditure. The decision about the nature of the new surface and the extent of the funding is a diocesan decision, informed by the technical input of the diocesan surveyor/project manager and the diocesan property manager. All comments received by the pastoral council have been, and will be, passed to the diocese, which will take account of the cost, aesthetics and fitness for purpose.

PARISH BUILDINGS COMMITTEE, 16 JANUARY 2012:

Much of the meeting was taken up with discussion about the church floor. It needs replacing and carpet is the cheapest and most flexible option. Carpet tiles will be used on the church floor, carpet with underlay on the altar and barrier matting in the entrance porch, probably all in a green/blue colour which will complement the stained glass and tone in with the carpet in the Iona Chapel.

Thank you so much for your recent donations and especially the Christmas Gifts. The tinned goods, hampers and warm clothing were well received. Thank you also for the wonderful knitted hats and the socks and gloves. There are, unusually, quite a few ladies who are in need of the services of the Centre at the moment. Jeans and boots and warm jumpers are always required, also men’s trainers and warm gloves. The regular donation of the shower gels, deodorants, tooth brushes and paste enables the users of the Centre to keep positive and retain their self respect. All warm clothing is really gratefully received. Also, any tinned or dried goods which either go into the kitchens or to make emergency packs for those lucky enough to get a bed sit. For suitability of donations or to arrange for me to collect, please telephone Maggie on Chester 341509 after 7 p.m.
