At 9.00 a.m. before the Blessed Sacrament in the Iona Chapel, Monday through to Thursday, except Wednesdays, when Morning Prayer will commence at 8.50 a.m. followed at 9.10 a.m. by Novena Prayers to Our Lady of Perpetual Succour prior to Mass.

CONFESSIONS

St. Columba’s: Between 6.00 p.m. and 6.25 p.m. before the Vigil Mass. At other times by arrangement with Fr. Jonathan.

St. Theresa’s: After every weekday Mass.

We welcome Christopher and Emma Pendlebury, their family and friends to St. Columba’s this Sunday as they baptise their little daughter Anna Rose. We celebrate with them and will pray for them as they begin their life of faith together

Please pray for Anne Molloy, who died recently. May the Lord grant her Eternal Life and console her family and friends. Anne’s Funeral Service will take place on Friday 23rd March at 1.20 pm at Chester Crematorium.

EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS’ ROTAS:

The new rotas for St Theresa’s Eucharistic Ministers are now available in the sacristy.

CATECHESIS ON THE EUCHARIST:

The latest in the series of talks on the Eucharist by Pope Francis is available this week. Please take a copy on your way out of Mass. You are invited to take the leaflets home with you to reflect on this important teaching.

LENTEN PENITENTIAL SERVICES:

· St Columba’s: Will be held on Monday, 12th March at 7.00 pm.

· Our Lady, Star of the Sea, Ellesmere Port: Will be held at 7.00 pm on Friday, 16th March.

· St Theresa’s: Will be held on Tuesday, 27th March at 7.00 pm.

FOOTSTEPS TO THE CROSS:

This Lent service led by the young people of our parish will be on Friday, 16th March at 7.30 pm. ‘Footsteps to the Cross’ is a prayerful reflection based on the people Jesus met on his journey with his cross. Please come and support our young people. If you are at high school and would like to read, please contact Denise Lusk on 01244 379742.

CAFOD LENT FAST DAY:

Thank you very much for your kind offerings. The amount raised at St Columba’s was £625 and this has now been sent to CAFOD. The sum this year will be doubled, benefitting from the UK Government’s Match Funding scheme

CATHOLIC WOMEN’S LEAGUE CIO:

The next meeting will be on Monday 12th March at 1.00 p.m. in St. Francis Church Hall. A talk on “Walking the Santiago de Compostela Way” will be given by Kevin Keegan. All welcome.

NATIONAL EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS AND PILGRIMAGE (Adoremus), LIVERPOOL 7-9th SEPTEMBER 2018:

The Shrewsbury Diocese is entitled to 154 delegates to the Symposium on Friday 7th Sept. and 710 delegates on Saturday 8th Sept. All delegates may attend either of the 2 Masses held at Christ the King Cathedral, Liverpool either at 9.30 am or 11am on Sunday, 9th September.

We need to confirm details of delegates from St Columba’s/St Theresa’s Parishes who wish to attend by 9am, Monday 12th March. The cost to attend is £40 per delegate per day. If anyone would like to attend please contact Peter Devine on either pjpd1956 or 07825 172932 (this mobile does not have the facility to retrieve messages so please text or speak to Peter). If anyone has difficulty making a contribution to the cost of attending, please do not hesitate to discuss this with Fr Jonathan.

GIFT AID:

As the end of the Tax Year approaches Gift Aid donors are reminded to check that you will have paid enough income tax in 2017-18 to cover the tax that will be reclaimed on your gift aided donations. If you are in any doubt, please contact David Savage tel. 380626.

RED MISSION BOXES:

Could those with Red Mission boxes at St. Columba’s please leave them in the sacristy for Marg Curtis to bank and you can collect your empty box later from the table in the rear porch of the Church.

WORK AT ST THERESA’S CHURCH:

The decorating is continuing, thank you for your patience with this. The tabernacle is being put back next week, and the week after the new carpets will be put down. We are still waiting for the report on the heating.

· The 200 Club has recently paid towards the cost of restoring the Statue of Our Lady in the garden at St Theresa’s. Thanks to the parishioners who are carrying out the work on this.

YOUTH GROUP (FOR 10-14 YEARS):

The next youth group meeting will be on Monday 12th March starting at 7.15 pm in the Iona Chapel, finishing promptly at 9 in St Columba’s hall. All welcome – learn something about our faith but mostly play games, hang out and have fun. More details from Anthony Hunt on 07714 160268.

GIANT JENGA, FOOTBALL & GAMES ETC:

The youth group hopes to expand our equipment as our numbers are growing and the weather warms. If you have anything you no longer use please would you donate it to us. We would enjoy giant Jenga, Connect 4 or similar quick games, and when the light evenings arrive hope to play cricket, football and rounders. UPTON CHURCHES TOGETHER – DATE FOR YOUR DIARY – ANNUAL TRIP:

On Wednesday 23rd May, there will be a coach trip organised by CTU. This will consist of a guided tour of Norton Priory followed by afternoon tea at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral and finishing with Choral Evening Prayer at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral. Cost: £20. EASTER LILIES:

There is a tradition in some parishes to buy Easter Lilies in remembrance of a deceased loved one. If you would like to buy an Easter Lily, please place £1 in an envelope clearly marked “Easter Lily” with the name of your loved one, and place it in the offertory basket. These lilies will decorate the Sanctuary during Easter, along with a list of names of those remembered.

DIOCESAN VACANCY:
