MORNING PRAYER (St Columba’s):

Until further notice Morning Prayer will take place before the Blessed Sacrament in Church Monday through to Thursday, except Wednesdays, when Morning Prayer will commence at 8.50 a.m. followed at 9.10 a.m. by Novena Prayers to Our Lady of Perpetual Succour prior to Mass in the Iona Chapel.

CONFESSIONS

St. Columba’s: Between 6.00p.m. and 6.25p.m. before the Vigil Mass. At other times by arrangement with Fr. Jonathan.

St. Theresa’s: Confessions are heard after every weekday Mass.

LATELY DEAD:

Please pray for Florence (Flo) Childs and Christine Scanlan who died recently. May the Lord grant them Eternal Life and console their family and friends.

The Funeral Service for Florence Childs is at St Theresa’s on Thursday 21st March, 1.30pm. The Requiem Mass for Christine Scanlan is at St Theresa’s on Friday 29th March at 10.00am.

The talks on the Lent Readings will continue on Tuesday this week, 19th March, at 7.30 p.m. in the Iona Chapel, when we’ll be looking at the readings for the Third Sunday of Lent. More details on the notice boards.

ST. COLUMBA’S FIRST HOLY COMMUNION PARENTS’ MEETING:

A reminder that the FHC parents’ meeting is on Monday 18th March at 7.00pm in St. Werburgh’s and St. Columba’s School. We will discuss the Sacrament and the arrangements for the May Masses.

UPTON & BLACON CHURCHES TOGETHER:

This week we pray for:

· The residents of Kelvin Grove, Western Approach, Thirlmere Road, Harthill Road, The Parade, Tomlin’s Terrace and Carlisle Road;

· For a greater compassion for those who feel marginalised in our society;

· For a deeper unity between the Churches.

FOOTSTEPS TO THE CROSS:

This Lent Service, led by the young people of our parish, will be this Friday 22nd March at 7.30pm. at St Columba’s. “Footsteps to the Cross” is a prayerful reflection based on the people Jesus met as he carried his cross. Please come and support our young people. If you are 10, or older, and would like to read at the “Footsteps” please contact Denise Lusk on 01244 379742.

PARISH SOCIAL COMMITTEE:

A Musical Evening featuring home-grown talent –in St Theresa’s Centre on Friday 29th March. Please highlight the date in your diaries. More details to follow!

“40 DAYS” LEAFLET:

Please take a copy of our leaflet that sets out arrangements for all the Services over the Lent and Easter period at St. Columba’s and St. Theresa’s. Please note that on Easter Sunday at St. Columba’s there will also be a Mass at 9.15 a.m. in addition to the one shown for 11.00 a.m.

CHURCHES TOGETHER LENTEN LUNCH:

Come and enjoy a Soup and Sandwiches lunch at Upton URC, Heath Lane, 12 noon – 1.00pm on Thursday 21st March. Donations to Hospice of the Good Shepherd.

CALLED TO HOLINESS, GIFTED FOR MISSION:

The second of four diocesan talks will be by Fr Jonathan Brandon, Wednesday 20th March at St Columba’s, (7pm-9pm). It will be repeated in Shrewsbury the following Saturday. Details on the diocesan website.

DAY OF RECOLLECTION – 6th APRIL 2019:

There will be a Day of Recollection at St Columba’s Church for all Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion on Saturday 6th April, beginning with Mass at 10.00 a.m., followed by Reflection, followed by a discussion on practical matters, concluding with a sandwich lunch, which will be provided at 1.00 p.m. Please let the office know, by phone or email, whether you are attending. For those who cannot attend then further arrangements will have to be made as this is part of your commitment as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion.

RAFFLE IN AID OF CAFOD & ST THERESA’S SCHOOL:

Lucy, a Year 6 pupil is organising a raffle with the proceeds being split between CAFOD & St Theresa’s School. Tickets on sale at school and after the 9.30am Mass at St Theresa’s. For further information please see the poster at the back of church.

CATHOLIC WOMEN’S LEAGUE:

CWL CIO Branch Annual Review will be on Saturday 23rd March starting with Midday Mass at St Columba’s Church followed by lunch and meeting in the Church Hall. This event is always a good way to meet up with friends and other Sections in our Diocese. All members from Chester are invited.

ALTAR SERVERS:

The parish is in need of more altar servers. If any who has received their First Holy
Communion is interested in becoming an altar server, please contact Richard Curtis on rich.curtis89@yahoo.co.uk or 07787 782255.

CHARITY CONCERT, FRIDAY 12th APRIL:

A Choir concert is being held at St. Columba’s to raise money for the following charities: Chifundo, Chester Cathedral Mission Group, Chester Women’s Aid and Christian Aid North West. With two fantastic choirs – the Cheshire Chord Choir (female) and the Chester Male Voice Choir. For tickets please phone 01244 371069 – £12.50 adults, £5 under 18, including glass of wine or juice and nibbles. (Tickets also available on the door.) Come along and enjoy a really good night out.

PALM SUNDAY CONCERT, HALE BARNS:

See posters for details of a performance of Fauré’s ‘Requiem’ and a brand-new work ‘The Seven Words’ by Neil Provost, at 4pm on Sunday 14th April at Holy Angels, Hale Barns. Free entry, with donations going to the SVP and Christian Aid. (Poster also on St. Columba website, Notice Board.)

PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL:

The Pastoral Council are working towards making both churches more user-friendly for people with additional needs including dementia. It is important that we have more “meeters and greeters” who can open doors, welcome people and give out hymn books/Mass cards. If you could do this, please get in touch with one of the Council members, whose details are at the back of both churches.

VINTAGE BLACON

As we begin our journey through Lent can we reflect on when we help each other we are doing God’s work. Assist the parish to help Vintage Blacon to continue its work in tackling loneliness and isolation by volunteering a little of your time.
