MORNING PRAYER: (St Columba’s):

Until further notice Morning Prayer will take place before the Blessed Sacrament, in Church at 9.00 am Monday through to Thursday, except Wednesdays, when Morning Prayer will commence at 8.50 am followed at 9.10 am by Novena Prayers to Our Lady of Perpetual Succour prior to Mass in the Iona Chapel.

 

CONFESSIONS:

St. Columba’s: Between 6.00 pm and 6.25 pm before the Vigil Mass. At other times by arrangement with Fr. Jonathan.

St. Theresa’s: After every weekday Mass.

LATELY DEAD:

Please pray for Pricilla (Cilla) Winifred Edwards who died recently. May the Lord grant her Eternal Life and console their family and friends. The funeral service is on Wednesday 22 May at 2pm at Blacon Crematorium.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNIONS – St. Columba’s:

Family celebrations of the Sacrament continue throughout May. At both Masses this weekend some or all of the central pews will be reserved for the children and their families. We pray for and congratulate those making their First Holy communion this weekend: Kaizer Guanzon, Joseph Martinez, Peter McDonald, George Benson, Isabella Dudley, Sophia Hewitt, Lillian Martland, Elliot Quaglierini, Alex Urbas, and Jolie White.

 

MASS WITH SACRAMENT OF THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK:

MENINGITIS NOW COFFEE MORNING:

I want to thank everyone who helped in any way to make the coffee morning a great success. Some donations are still coming in and I am delighted to say that we raised over £500 for research projects. Thank you for your support.

UPTON & BLACON CHURCHES TOGETHER:

This week we pray for:

  • The residents of Donne Place, Kipling Road, Wordsworth Crescent, Wordsworth Mews, Wordsworth Square, Churchward Close, The Wien and Mickle Trafford.
  • For the hospitals in this area: Countess and Wirral & West Cheshire Trust.
  • For doctors and nurses and all who work in the NHS.
  • For the patients and those who are addicted to drugs or alcohol, or who are mentally ill. Also for those we know at this time who are ill.

 

BLACON CHURCHES TOGETHER:

There will be a ‘Prayer Walk’ starting and finishing at St. Theresa’s  on Saturday 18th May at 10.45 a.m. Followed by light refreshments in the Presbytery, all welcome.

 

UPTON CHURCHES TOGETHER FELLOWSHIP LUNCH:

This is on Wednesday 15th May, 12.00-1.30pm in the Kempe room at Holy Ascension church, Church Lane Upton. All welcome. Please try and support this lunch as it is a Christian Aid Week fund raiser.

 

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES DATES:

International Service at St Columba’s with a variety of foods afterwards, including the annual BBQ.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF THE PASTORAL COUNCIL – TUESDAY 21 MAY

This will be held on Tuesday 21 May in St Theresa’s club after 7.00 p.m. Mass at St. Theresa’s.  The meeting is open to all and provides a good opportunity to meet fellow parishioners and find out more about what the Pastoral Council does, why it does it and how it operates. A report will be given on the activities of the council over the last year (the minutes of the Pastoral Council meetings are on the notice boards at both churches) and finish with refreshments.

There will be opportunities to ask questions at the AGM but it would be helpful if any particular questions could be sent in writing (email or letter) to the secretary, Eileen Irwin at least seven days before the meeting. E mail: st.theresas@btinternet.com

 

EUCHARISTIC & READERS’ ROTAS (St Theresa’s):

The new rotas are now available in the sacristy.

 

CHESTER’S GOT TALENT!:

An “Alternative Eurovision 2019” is taking place in St. Columba’s Hall on Friday 17th May. It’s a Benefit Open Mic Night with proceeds going to charities supporting Palestine. 7.00pm – midnight. SVP THANK-YOU:

The parish SVP would like to thank the parish for their recent generous donations. The parish music night raised £191. Coffee morning £93.82 and the retiring collection from Mary Kiernan’s requiem Mass £340. Thank you for your continued support these donations will be utilised to help the vulnerable and marginalised locally, nationally and internationally.

 

YOUTH GROUP (10 – 14 years)

The next meeting of the youth group will be on Monday 20th May, starting at 7.15pm in the rear porch of St. Columba’s and finishing at 9pm in the church hall. We will have activities, games, play rounders/cricket, make pizza and have prayers, a chance to learn a little bit more about our faith, have fun, meet friends and make new friends. For more information speak to Father Jonathan, Amy O’Donnell or Denise Lusk. Because we are making pizzas please let Amy or Denise know if you are coming to the youth group this month (unless you already have).

 

CLIMATE CHANGE:

Following her journey to the UN Climate Conference with CAFOD, Catherine Green will give a talk on Climate Change; Caring for Our Common Home on Monday 20th May at 7.30 p.m. in the Iona Chapel, St Columba’s. Following this will be a Celebration of Creation at St Columba’s Vigil Mass on Saturday 1st June, followed by a shared table in the church hall with an opportunity to talk about how we can respond to the climate crisis. UPTON HALL SCHOOL OPEN EVENING:

This Catholic School in the Wirral is having an open evening on Thursday 20th June at 5.30 p.m. until 8.00 p.m.

 

MAJOR DIOCESAN EVENT:

RECOMMENDED VIEWING:

There are still two episodes of the BBC TV programme Pilgrimage on BBC iPlayer. The series follows 8 celebrities of different faiths walking to Rome where they have a private and moving audience with Pope Francis. Episode 2 is available until Monday 13 May, and episode 3 until Monday 20 May.
